How to Use the Billericay School Portal The school portal is a very useful facility which allows staff and students to access all their resources within the school system. Any software that works on the schools thin client system will also work through the school portal. If you are unable to access the portal, it will be due to the way in which your personal computer is set up. If you follow the flow chart below you should then be able to access the portal. To access the instructions, please logon to the school website and click on School Portal, and then Using the Billericay Portal. If you have tried all the methods listed below and still have problems, please email [email protected].

START Go to the MAC instructions at the bottom of the page.

Connect to the Internet and type in https://portal1.billericy.essex.sch.uk. Select Login and type in your usual username and password.

Go to www.java.com/en Have you installed JAVA

Download the latest version of JAVA appropriate to your machine.

Can you now see the School Desktops on the left hand side of the screen?

MAC If you using a MAC we recommend that you go to the school website and download the OVDC (Oracle Desktop Application) and follow the instructions on the installation guide. Yosemite users need to install Java 2014 for OSX http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

TRY FIRST: Windows 7—Ensure that the compatibility button is pressed if you are using Internet Explorer. Windows 8—users will not have the button pictured above, instead will need to click the tools cog top right of the browser > select compatibility view settings > then select Add to add the site to the compatible view list. Select close and refresh your web page to access portal. Using the Billericay School Portal On your home computer, connect to the Internet and open Internet Explorer

Keystage 3 go to https://portal1.Billericay.Essex.sch.uk Keystage 4 and 5 https://portal2.Billericay.Essex.sch.uk Select Log in and enter your username and password

If you get the above error screen then please do the following. Ensure you have the latest version of java installed by visiting http://www.java.com/en/

Click the Free Java Download button and follow the on screen instructions to install java.

If you have installed java and find that you are still getting the above error then you need to enable java for internet explorer. You do this by selecting the internet explorer compatibility button shown below. Internet Explorer 8

Once these steps are done the school portal should begin to load

You should now be logged into the school portal.

Select Curriculum Desktop for students or staff desktop for teaching/admin staff to launch your portal desktop session.

The portal will now load your school desktop. You have arrived. Working here is just as you do when you are in school.

When you have finished, log off in the usual way as shown above. Once you are back at the portal screen select log out in the top right hand corner to leave the portal.

How to Install the Oracle Virtual Desktop Client Download the correct version of OVDC from the school website OVDC for Apple Mac OVDC for Windows 32 Bit OVDC for Windows 64 Bit Once downloaded double click to run the installer If you run the wrong installer, your machine should tell you about this during the installation process.

Under the Server insert the following : Keystage 3: portal1.billericay.essex.sch.uk Keystage 4 and 5: portal2.billericay.essex.sch.uk

Click Connect, You should now be presented with a log in screen

If you are using the latest version of OSX Yosemite on Apple mac you will need to use the Oracle Virtual Desktop Client to access the school portal. Yosemite also requires that the latest version of Java is installed (download link below). If you upgraded your Mac from OSX Mavericks to Yosemite and already have the Oracle Virtual Desktop Client installed you will need to uninstall it and follow the below steps.

Download and install Java for osx 2014 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

Follow the above instructions (page 9) to install Oracle Virtual Desktop Client
